Fees & Rebates
A referral from your General Practitioner (GP), Paediatrician or Psychiatrist is required to access Medicare rebates for psychology sessions. Medicare rebates are available for psychology services provided under a Mental Health Care Plan. This Plan is a referral that is completed by a GP and provides access to Medicare rebates for up to 10 individual sessions per person, per calendar year. When making an appointment with your GP for the Mental Health Treatment Plan assessment, it is recommended you request an extended consultation.
You will need to schedule a return visit to review your progress after the first six psychological therapy sessions. At this point your GP can provide a referral for up to an additional four sessions, if required.
GP referrals should be faxed to: (07) 5335 1697 or sent via Medical Object
As of 01/07/2024 Medicare will rebate:
$141.85 per standard consultation with a Clinical Psychologist
$96.65 per standard consultation with a General Psychologist/ Clinical Psychology Registrar
- Psychology services are exempt from GST.
- Using Halaxy, Medicare rebates will be processed on the day of your consultation.
- Payments are typically made on the day of consultation through our Halaxy system and a stored Credit Card.
- If you plan to use private health insurance for your treatment or if you plan to pay privately, then you do not need a referral.
- The fees charged for a session will depend on the experience and type of psychologist chosen (i.e. Couples Therapy, Clinical Psychologist or General Psychologist). Our front office team will be happy to discuss these options with you, so you can choose the therapist to best suit your situation.
