Assessments
The consultants at TPC are competent to undertake a wide range of professional psychological tests and assessments for a variety of purposes. The main reason for an assessment and report is to guide a decision, such as treatment, compensation, behaviour management, disability support etc. and are often funded by third parties such as by work-related or motor accident injury compensation agencies, Victim of Crime agencies, insurance companies and employers and government program services (e.g., Medicare Australia, Veterans Affairs, NDIS).
What does an Assessment involve?
The typical assessment process begins with an initial intake assessment, where you meet with your psychologist for the first time to discuss your needs and presenting concerns. This intake assessment involves gathering background information and deciding on the most suitable assessment for your needs. During this session, your psychologist will be able to provide you with an overview of what assessments will be conducted, the timeframes and the associated cost. This session also gives you a chance to get to know your psychologist’s particular way of working, to see if it will meet your needs.
Following the intake assessment, testing is completed over several sessions, ranging from 2-4 hours per session. We can schedule this to be immediately following your intake assessment, or on a separate day. After the testing is completed, your psychologist will spend time scoring and writing a comprehensive report. A feedback session will then be arranged where the psychologist will explain the results of the assessment to you and provide you with recommendations for intervention strategies that may help you to achieve your educational, occupational, health or mental health goals. We can provide reports to help clients access support under programs such as the NDIS, or for school verification purposes.
What an ADHD Assessment Involves
The ADHD assessment process involves an intake interview, behavioural observations, completion of various questionnaires about ADHD and a cognitive assessment. Generally, due to the nature of the persons’ differences with attention, testing is completed over a few sessions to avoid distraction and fatigue and see their best performance.
We can also offer behavioural observations outside the clinic if this is needed (e.g. home or school).
After testing, we provide you with a comprehensive report including recommendations for different settings. Your report will include several recommendations for the management of ADHD, which may include support and referral options, psychological strategies, psychiatric or paediatric review for medication and adjustments to school or work to support learning and achievement.
And please remember that the psychologists at TPC are trained and experienced in helping individuals manage the severity of their ADHD, helping them to cope and manage their symptoms.
